For stepping up when it mattered the most, Arroyo Grande High's Garrett Owens captures his second-straight Friday Night Highlights Player of the Week award. The Air Force recruit filled the stat sheet in every way possible last Friday in the Eagles' 49-28 come from behind win at St. Francis.
Owens caught five passes for 61 yards, including a sensational 33 yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. Owens also converted field goals of 50 and 27 yards.
He accounted for 22 of Arroyo Grande's points in its thrilling quarterfinal win. But the six points that came on the end of his 32 yard interception return were the most crucial. The pick-six gave Arroyo Grande the lead for good 35-28 in the fourth quarter.
"The middle linebacker made the quarterback throw a bad pass and I happened to be in the right spot at the right time. I mean we had great blocking up field after the pick. I'm so happy that we won that game, it was a big win," said Owens.
For winning, Garrett scores a gift card from our FNH Player of the Week sponsor Subway.
This week's runners-up were Cabrillo High's TJ Babauta (195 rushing yards, 2 TD) and Templeton's Matt Arace (168 rushing yards, TD).
