Gas and oil prices have climbed to 18-month highs this week. Nationwide, the price of gasoline is up eight cents over the past month. It's up 80 cents from one year ago.
Analysts call it a perfect storm of factors: more drivers are on the road in warmer weather, refineries are switching fuel blends for the summer, and futures traders are betting on a growing economy.
Here on the central coast, prices are also up.
In San Luis Obispo County, AAA says the current average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.17. That's up about six cents from one week ago and close to 80 cents compared to one year ago.
In Santa Barbara County, the current average is $3.18, up seven cents from last week and also up close to 80 cents from last year.
