Production has stopped on a generic version of Lipitor after glass particles were found in some of the cholesterol-lowering medication.

The generic medication is made by Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals in India.

The Food and Drug Administration says it is looking into the company's quality control practices.

Other companies also make generic forms of Lipitor, so experts suggest checking with your pharmacist to see if you need a different product.

Although the thought of glass in a medication sounds scary, doctors say the particles were so small they are not likely to cause major harm.

There have been no reports of illness related to the recalled product.
