Get ready to see a lot of scruff, moustaches and beards this month! With November, comes "Movember!"
Movember is a global movement that helps raise funds and awareness of men's health issues, more specifically, prostate cancer.
Typically, men go the entire month of November without shaving to raise money for the cause. The team of participants at Cal Poly got together Monday night to kick off their campaign.
"It's centered around moustache growing, which is really the tip of the iceberg," said Nick Bilich, a part of the Men and Masculinity Program at Cal Poly, which is one group taking part in the Movember campaign. "That's just the visible sign saying 'I'm behind the movement' and we're hoping that's going to generate discussion."
Bilich says the movement also helps remind male participants to keep up with their annual check-ups. He says 86 percent of participants signed up for annual check-ups for testicular and prostate cancers.
