Giving back can improve health

Teens can actually improve their health by giving back to the community.

A Canadian study found adolescents who volunteered for just one hour a week in an elementary school had lower cholesterol and inflammation levels and lower BMIs than teens who didn't volunteer.

The volunteers also had greater increases in empathy, generosity and self esteem, which led to improvements in cardiovascular health.
