San Luis Obispo High graduate Jordan Goldsmith carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning in Cuesta College's 9-0 win over 9th ranked Riverside Wednesday.
The Cougars scored three times in the first, single runs in the third and fourth frames, before adding three more in the seventh and the final run in the eighth inning.
Goldsmith earned the win after going 8 shutout innings, yielding just 2 hits and striking out 4. Fellow SLO High graduate Sean Mullen struck out 1 in a scoreless ninth inning to seal the shutout.
Lee Sheller, a sophomore first baseman from Oregon, led the Cougars' offensive attack with 3 hits and 2 RBI. Mission Prep graduate Aled Detz and Chris Lindmark each collected 2 hits. Detz added two RBI.
After opening the season with three losses at 2nd ranked Orange Coast, Cuesta earned its first win of the year to improve to 1-3 The Cougars were ranked 7th in the Southern California Regional Preseason Coaches poll. Cuesta hosts Porterville on Friday at 2pm before hosting Canada College for a doubleheader on Saturday.
