The 71st Annual Santa Maria Elks Rodeo and Parade take place next weekend, but there was a special event on Friday to help get the festivities going.
Golfers hit the links at Monarch Dunes in Nipomo to raise money for the Minetti Mini Rodeo.
Every year, elementary school students from Gaviota to Shell Beach are treated to a special rodeo performance.
"The mini rodeo was part of what Elkdom's tradition is and that is to take care of the youth and the veterans of our community and that's going along with their philosophy that the mini rodeo was established as an opportunity to support our youth," said Tina Tonascia, Elks Recreation.
Friday's golf tournament will help pay for the buses that take the children to the rodeo, which takes place at the Elks Unocal Event Center in Santa Maria.
