The Blues officially received an invitation to the National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series on Friday morning. The inviation came after the Blues swept a three game series against defending national champions, Santa Barbara. San Luis Obispo will play a first round game in the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas on Tuesday, July 31. The team has been raising money at games to be able to afford a trip to Wichita. Before the announcement the team had raised about $8,000 for the trip. "I'm hoping that this official announcement that we're in and going and playing on the 31st that a lot of people that have pledged that if we go now will come forward and we need all the help we can get from the fans and the community" said Blues head coach Chal Fanning. Fanning says the team hopes to raise $25,000 to cover travel and lodging expenses for the tournament.
After the Blues got the bid they went out and lost a home game to the Conejo Oaks, 3-1. The loss dropped the Blues to 29-13 overall and 17-9 in the California Collegiate League. They are still in first place in the CCL and ranked 11th in the nation. The Blues have eight more games before the NBC World Series.
