Good news for local job seekers

With unemployment at a record high, there's some good news for job seekers. The Workforce Investment Board is having Grand Openings for two One Stop Career Centers in San Luis Obispo County.

The centers offer Internet access, phones, and fax machines needed for job search purposes; job listings, career counseling, workshops, training resources, and referrals to employment-related programs.

These much needed services are now available to South County residents and businesses without having to travel to San Luis Obispo. The new One-Stop Career Center is located at 1800 Grand Avenue in Grover Beach.

The Creekside Career Center in San Luis Obispo moved to its new location and has been renamed the "Business and Career One Stop of San Luis Obispo." The new location is 880 Industrial Way at the Goodwill Headquarters. Services are still available in the North County at the Estrella Career Center on the Cuesta College Campus in Paso Robles. All three centers are open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm except on recognized holidays.

These enhancements to the local One Stop system are the result of a change in One Stop operator that took place in July 2009. Shoreline Workforce Development Services, a division of Goodwill Industries, received funding from the Workforce Investment Board to be the operator of the One Stop system in San Luis Obispo. Shoreline is responsible to coordinate services at the three local centers with its operating partners the Department of Social Services, the Employment Development Department, Cuesta College, and Path Point.
