DALLAS (AP) - More flights are getting to their destinations on time and with fewer mishandled bags.

The U.S. Transportation Department said Thursday that 86.3 percent of flights on the nation's biggest airlines arrived on time in April, up several points from both the previous month and April 2011.

Perennial winner Hawaiian Airlines had the best on-time record, followed closely by AirTran Airways.

America Airlines, which has been operating under bankruptcy protection since November, had the worst record, and United was only slightly better.

The government says the rate of mishandled bags fell to less than three for every 1,000 passengers, the lowest rate since the airlines started reported the statistic in 1987.
