Governor reverses decision to release killer

A man who was convicted as a teen of a beating an elderly man to death with a skateboard will not be released from custody.

Robert Holguin was 13 when he killed 87-year old Gerald O'Malley in San Luis Obispo.

Holguin is now 22, and the California Juvenile Parole Review Board recently found him suitable for release.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office asked Governor Jerry Brown to reverse that decision. Governor Brown agreed Holguin should not be released, in part because of an email Brown says Holguin sent him, threatening to shoot the governor.

WARNING: The email contains extremely graphic language. The text of that email was included in the full report of Governor Brown's decision, which you can read by clicking here.
