I take good questions on facebook, by email, by letter and by phone but I got an unusual one this week from Jeanette Trompeter. It's one she came up with while shooting a story on the Reservoir Canyon Trail in San Luis Obispo. She asked: "So John, if you haul yourself up to the top of the ridge behind San Luis High School there's this great little kick-back spot that somebody has built for all of us hikers. Where'd they come from? Who do we have to thank? That's my good question."
It's a Good Question and a good mystery. San Luis Obispo Parks and Rec says the bench has been there at least 10 years and no one knows who built it, but it's solid and took some skill. Shovels were needed to dig the foundation and then serpentine rocks were gathered from the surrounding area and chipped into place. A mystery person (or persons) maintains the bench year after year and waters the plants placed around the structure.
Some hikers have said they've heard a story about a man building the bench to honor his young son who loved the view from here.
Be sure to send your good question to ksby.com or facebook.com/JohnRegerKsbyNews. The only bad question is the one you don't ask.
