A $4,000 grant will help combat obesity in the community.
French Hospital Medical Center and Arroyo Grande Community Hospital will soon offer a four-week nutrition series.
The lectures are designed to target low income residents including Latinos and seniors, but are open to anyone interested in living healthier.
"The series has a very basic approach to many complicated issues like how to read a nutrition label, how to understand the new My Pyramid and the overall understanding that food is good. The series gives the person a better understanding of what to select and better food choices to make," said the hospital's Community Benefits/Outreach Coordinator Patty Herrera Herrera.
Participants will also learn hands-on fun physical activities encouraging family exercise.
The grant was awarded by the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation, which has identified obesity prevention as a critical local preventive health issue.
