The Grover Beach City Council voted unanimously on Monday night to use an appointment process to fill the seat vacated by Phyllis Molnar, who resigned after a little more than two years of service.
The council will now take applications from those interested in the job.
Council members decided against holding a special election, which would have cost the city up to $30,000.
