CORCORAN, Calif. (AP) - A prison guard is recovering after he was stabbed by an inmate at a Central California prison.
A state corrections department statement says inmates were being escorted from yards to security cells at Corcoran State Prison around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when one prisoner used a handmade key to slip his handcuffs, then stabbed a guard with a homemade weapon.
The guard had neck, head and shoulder wounds but was hospitalized in good condition.
Authorities say three other guards were hurt when they responded to the scene. One was kicked by another inmate and two had wrist, back and knee injuries.
They were treated at a hospital.
Authorities say the alleged attacker, Dan Felix, is serving a life sentence for attempted murder. He's been at Corcoran since 1997.
