Gun-toting Jesus in yard display sparks controversy Play Video

Ron Lake calls his Christmas decorations art, but others describe the scene as offensive. Neighbors and others who pass by the Nipomo home have done a double-take when they see a statue of Jesus holding a double barrelled shotgun that's pointed at a dead Santa. There's also a stuffed Rudolph laying on top of the hood of a pick-up truck.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department says, while they have received complaints, there is nothing they can do because Lake is not breaking the law. Lake, who is house-sitting at the residence, says he created the display because Christmas has become too commercialized. He hopes parents explain to kids the religious significance of Christmas, instead of just focusing on presents.

    Ron Lake,
Kudos for your courage! I couldn't agree more - so sad people have nothing else to do but call the cops. Limited folks in all aspects.
    Merry Christmas!

Ron Lake, this isn't your house. Did you ask permission from the owners before you posted this tripe?

Why are you assaulting Christmas, Ron Lake?

Christmas is about the BIRTH OF CHRIST, and you think it's about killing your enemies.

Other people have scenes of Baby Jesus in a manger, and here you have a full grown Jesus with a shotgun.

Somehow I think you confused Jesus with someone else.

However, this is the sort of crap that was encouraged back when I went to New Life Church of the Nazarene.

Interesting that the neighbors would object, given what passes for art in California. Particularly given what is taught in schools. Apparently, it's OK to advocate for certain types of antisocial behavior and to abdicate responsibility, but it isn't OK to protest against that type of thing. Or it's OK to have open displays of pornography, homosexuality and other evils where children can see them in California cities, but one cannot protest against such ills, even on private property. Hmm, wasn't there something... ah, yes, the First Amendment. Apparently, it's only for some and not others.

What if there is no Jesus, or Santa, then really it doesn't matter either way.
