More than fifty percent of the full time workers at Camp San Luis Obispo have been furloughed because they are federal employees.
Most of them are involved in maintaining vehicles.
Similar workers in other parts of the state keep aircraft flying.
"It will affect the response time and it will affect the number of people that are ready. Because if they aren't here maintaining the aircraft and vehicles, it's going to take some time to bring people in and do that before you can use them," said Colonel Joseph Righello of Camp San Luis Obispo.
The Department of Defense made the decision on which workers were furloughed.
