Halloween Skate event raises funds to keep South County Skate Park open

If you drove by the South County Skate Park in Grover Beach Saturday, you may have noticed some different characters hanging around.

It was the park's Halloween Skate Event.

Skaters ages five and up were invited to show off their skills and get in the Halloween spirit. There were prizes for the best costumes, and there was also live music.

The event is a fundraiser for the skate park and the San Luis Obispo YMCA. Funds raised will be used to help keep the skate park open.

"When I'm out skating on the streets at stair sets and handrails, people say 'hey get off my property!' and it's not fun to have to skate and worry that you're going to get kicked out. When you're here, you can just skate and you don't have to worry about it," said 14-year-old Carson Craft from Pismo Beach.

The skate park is located at 1750 Ramona Avenue in Grover Beach.
