Felipe Gonzalez and Tommy Lininger each drove in two runs to back starting pitcher Marc Baker as the Allan Hancock College baseball team blanked rival Cuesta for the second-straight game 7-0 on Thursday to complete a Western State Conference sweep.
The Bulldogs improved to 8-7 overall and 2-0 in WSC play. The Cougars dropped to 6-9 and 0-2 in league.
Hancock struck first in the top of the first inning on a run-scoring single to right field by Gonzalez. The Santa Ynez High graduate added an opposite field single in the third inning to drive in Hancock's second run of the game against Cuesta pitcher Andrew Nelson.
Marvin Fight added a single up the middle that was misplayed by the Cuesta center fielder to allow Righetti grad Ryan Bendele to score in the fourth to make it 3-0 Bulldogs. Lininger crushed a solo home run to left field in the fifth to make it a 4-0 game.
The Bulldogs added three more runs in the seventh on a RBI-double from Lininger, a bases loaded walk to Preston Thomas and a ground ball by Bendele.
Baker, a Nipomo High graduate, threw 7 2/3 shutout innings. He scattered two hits and 4 walks and struck out 4 Cougars. Zack Skipper and Ty Turner combined for 1 1/3 innings of relief to close out the victory.
