A two-out rally in the bottom of the eleventh inning resulted in a thrilling walk-off win for the Allan Hancock College baseball team on Tuesday. The Bulldogs came from behind to beat the Vaqueros for the first time in three tries this season 4-3 in 11 innings.
Arroyo Grande High graduate Mitchell Hollingsworth hit a bases-loaded walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th to drive in River Stevens. The winning hit followed Mike Foley being hit by a pitch to force in Nick Taitague to tie it at 3-3.
The Vaqueros took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 11th inning on a run-scoring double by Mark Jebbia. He had 3 hits and two RBI. Jebbia hit a RBI-single in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game 2-2 to cap a two run rally in the ninth for SBCC aided by three Hancock errors.
The Bulldogs built a 2-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the 7th inning by Mike Foley to score Chris Hernandez with the first run of the game. They added to it with a run-scoring single from Daniel Mallory in the bottom of the eighth to plate Hollingsworth.
The Bulldogs and Vaqueros are both 7-8 in Western State Conference play, three games back of first place Cuesta and Moorpark with five league games to play.
Joe Perez went 8 1/3 innings for Hancock. He allowed 6 hits, 2 unearned runs and struck out 5. Codey Shrider earned the win in relief by throwing 2 2/3 innings.
Shane Turner took the loss for SBCC after allowing 2 runs, 3 hits and 3 walks in 2 2/3 innings of relief. Danny Nieves started for the Vaqueros and tossed 7 innings of one-run ball, allowing just 4 hits.
Hancock committed four errors in the game.
The two teams meet for the final time on Thursday in Santa Barbara.
