The Bulldog men shot 61 percent from the field and had three players with 20 or more points in their 91-77 win over Santa Barbara City College basketball team Wednesday to open Western State Conference play. The Allan Hancock College women committed 41 turnovers in their conference opening 49-33 loss to the Vaqueros.
Demetrius Thomas led Allan Hancock College men with 25 points and 8 rebounds. Khafu Najee and Leron Fisher each scored 20 points for the Bulldogs.
The Vaqueros drained 14 three-point shots in the loss. Trace Yager led SBCC with his season-high 16 points. Rico Failla added 14.
Hancock led 37-36 at the break and led 60-56 with 10:40 to play before taking control of the game with a 20-3 run.
The Bulldogs improved to 14-6 overall and 1-0 in WSC action, while the Vaqueros dropped to 0-1 in conference and 4-9 overall.
The Hancock women scored just six points and shot 13 percent in the first half and never recovered. They trailed 16-6 after committing 24 turnovers in the first twenty minutes. The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 0-1 in league and 4-13 overall.
