Allan Hancock College football star Cameron Artis-Payne announced he will continue his college career at Auburn. The sophomore running back visited the campus last week and fell in love with it.

The 5-11, 212 pounder has rushed for 1,838 yards with one game to play in the regular season. He leads the state in rushing yards per game (204) and touchdowns (23). The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native has set four Hancock records already.

Last year as a freshman, Artis-Payne rushed for 1,364 yards and scored 18 touchdowns and was named to the All-State Team.

Artis-Payne said he made the decision to become a Tiger after talking it over with his family and Hancock coaches. "We all felt that it was the best move for me. I always wanted to play in the SEC, they got the best football in the country obviously they won the last 6 BCS games so that's what I was looking for," said Artis-Payne moments after announcing his decision.

"You know this guy has done it all right and so many times I've had guys that just didn't have the grades or they were missing part of the puzzle and he seems to have all that, so it's very exciting for the program and the school," said Hancock head coach Kris Dutra.

Cameron, who is ranked one of the top running back recruits in the nation by some sources, chose Auburn over offers from Washington, Utah, Utah State and New Mexico. One reason he picked Auburn is because his family, which lives in Pennsylvania, will be able to come to more of his games.

Artis-Payne is looking to follow in the successful footsteps of the last junior college recruit named Cameron to commit to Auburn. Cam Newton joined the Tigers and went on to win a national championship in 2010.
