A fifth of hospitals in the United States don't have hand sanitizer in all the recommended areas.
Researchers looked at 168 hospitals in 42 states to see how hospitals were complying with the hand hygiene guidelines issued by the World Health Organization in 2009.
More than 75-percent of hospitals had sanitizer available, but a tenth of hospitals said senior leaders hadn't made a clear commitment to hand hygiene education and supplies.
Medicals professionals say infections contracted in health care settings are responsible for about 100-thousand deaths each year.
