Central Coast native Jordan Hasay ran her first-ever 10,000 meter run on Friday at the Stanford Invitational as she opened her outdoor track season in a star-studded field. The University of Oregon senior finished third behind only Nike runners Shalane Flanagan and Kara Goucher, both of them represented the United States in the 2012 London Olympics.
Hasay finished in 32:46.68, which was the best time among collegiate runners and better than a few professionals. She almost beat Goucher, who finished in 31:46.64. Flanagan won with a time of 31:04.85.
A 17-time All-American, Hasay is already the most decorated runner in Oregon history. She was coming off a second place finish in the 3,000 and fourth place finish in the 5K at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Hasay led the Oregon women to their third-straight national indoor title.
Ultimately, the Mission Prep graduate hopes the 10K will improve her performance in the 5K as the season progresses. Her personal-best time entering the season in the 5K is 15:37.39.
