SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - After recording just the eighth hat trick in Cal Poly men's soccer program history to fuel a 5-1 triumph at Air Force on Sept. 27, Cal Poly men's soccer senior forward Mackenzie Pridham earned his first career Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor on Monday afternoon.
During Cal Poly's victory at Air Force, in which the Mustangs matched a program record by registering their fifth successive win, Pridham notched the game-winning goal in the 12th minute before scoring twice in a seven-minute span early in the second half to cement the program's first hat trick since four-time All-Big West selection David Zamora performed the feat in a 3-1 win against Cal State Northridge on Oct. 24, 2009. Against Air Force, Pridham placed five of his six shot attempts on target.
The three-goal haul was only the second road hat trick by a Mustang and first since Clay Harty hit Gonzaga three times on Sept. 6, 1995.
Already enjoying one of the top offensive seasons in program history, Pridham's eight goals through 10 matches this year have him halfway to the single-season record of 16, set by Harty in 1995.
Entering Cal Poly's Friday, Oct. 4 Big West-opening match against UC Riverside, Pridham leads all conference players in goals and points (18) and ranks third with 28 shot attempts. Among NCAA Division I players, Pridham ranks third nationally in both goals and points.
Pridham, who scored 11 times last year, currently ranks second in program history with four multi-goal matches, third with 21 goals and fourth with 45 points.
Pridham's Big West Offensive Player of the Week honor was the first such award for a Mustang this year.
Cal Poly (7-3-0), which has won six successive Big West openers, concludes its two-game home stand against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 3 p.m.
