Eating well could keep your brain healthy and sharp.

Researchers at Oregon Health and Science University studied more than one hundred elderly adults.

Each participant gave a blood sample to determine levels of certain nutrients in the blood, and underwent memory and thinking tests.

They found those with diets high in omega three fatty acids and vitamins C, D, E, and the B vitamins had higher scores on the mental thinking tests.

People with lots of trans fats in their diet had lower scores and were more likely to experience brain shrinkage.

Researchers said more studies are needed, but they are excited to learn elderly adults can curb their risk for memory problems by changing their diet.

The study was published in the journal Neurology.
