The California Highway Patrol says a helicopter has crashed on the southbound lanes of Highway 101 near Salinas.
The crash happened just after 6:00 a.m. Friday morning just south of Airport Boulevard. The CHP says the southbound lanes have been closed. It's not clear when they will be reopened.
The NBC affiliate in Salinas reports the pilot survived the crash, but fuel is leaking onto the highway.
No word on what caused the pilot to crash.
