Some local employers are going great lengths to improve workplace morale.
Since the majority of Americans are unhappy at work-- 53 percent according to a new study -- companies like Etna Interactive, MINDBODY, and iFixit in San Luis Obispo offer unconventional perks.
"We bring in people who are already at the top of their game with good work ethics, smart and hard working and we create an environment where they can thrive," said President and Founder of Etna Interactive Ryan Miller.
Chair massages, end-of-week cocktail hour, stocked pantries, surprise company outings, even a serenity loft when a change of scenery is needed to break up the daily eight-five are just some of the perks.
"Just having that fun work environment makes employees happy, which then they put that over to clients who we work constantly hard for," said Etna Employee Brianna Mallory.
iFixit also buys bikes for employees who agree to ride to work three or four days a week.
"San Luis Obispo is one of the happiest places to live in the U.S. and it should be one of the happiest places to work," said Miller.
