A new study finds women with high blood pressure after childbirth are at an increased risk of complications.

Researchers say women who had pregnancy-related pre-eclampsia are most prone to post-partum hypertension, but it can develop in those without prior risk factors.

High blood pressure after delivery can cause blood clots or even a brain hemorrhage, so experts recommend these women be monitored in the hospital for at least 72 hours and for two weeks after discharge.

Symptoms of post-partum hypertension are headaches, visual problems, nausea, and vomiting.
