Santa Maria High School District leaders are making personal sacrifices to balance the budget.

The superintendent and the entire management team of the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District will be taking seven furlough days, two before June and five during the next school year. The furloughs save the district about $128,000.

The reductions are part of a plan to reduce management costs by 10 percent over the next three years. The district deficit is more than $4 million.
