High speed chase near Santa Maria, Highway 1 is shut down

Highway 1 near Santa Maria is shut down after a high-speed chase resulted in shooting Thursday around 6:45 pm. The high-speed chase involved a wrong-way driver that started near Orcutt at South Clark on Highway 135, continued north near Nipomo and onto Highway 1.

According to the CHP, shots were fired near Black Road in Santa Maria.

Surrounding roads, including Highway 1, are closed as a result.

No information regarding injuries or other details are known at this time.

According to CHP, the Santa Maria Police Department is leading the investigation.

KSBY has a crew headed to the scene and will continue to update the situation.
