Surf will initially be around 10 feet Saturday morning then increase through the day peaking at 12 to 16 feet with some sets to 20 feet late Saturday through Sunday. This surf will be especially dangerous due to the power from the long period swells. Surf will begin to diminish on Monday and continue to decrease into Tuesday.

A high surf advisory remains in effect from 8 am Saturday to 9 pm Monday for the Central Coast.

High surf will cause dangerous rip currents on all beaches and that will pose a threat to all swimmers. in addition sneaker waves can inundate beaches and overtop jetties.

Always swim near a lifeguard if possible. stay out of the water if not a strong swimmer. do not climb across jetties and never turn your back to the ocean as sneaker waves could knock you into the water.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.

As for the inner waters swells are expected to be between 2 and 4 feet this holiday weekend. Although some of the swell energy will be blocked by the Channel Islands enough swell energy will be able to sneak into the Santa Barbara and San Pedro Channels and bring local high surf and a widespread high risk for rip currents starting Saturday afternoon and continuing through Monday.
