Hill, Baty, Cusack and Hall rank among the state's best

Several Central Coast 11-man football players rank among the top 50 in the CIF-Southern Section or in the state in certain statistical categories headed into the semifinal round of the playoffs.

St. Joseph senior Scotty Cusack ranks #2 in California and #1 in the Southern Section by averaging 44.9 yards per kickoff return. He returned 11 kicks for 494 yards, including 3 for touchdowns of at least 90 yards. He also is tied for 34th in the Southern Section with 21 total touchdowns.

San Luis Obispo High defensive back Nick Hill finished with 7 interceptions, which rank 7th in the Southern Section and tied for 15th in the state. Nipomo's Kaleb Mendez had 6 picks to tie for 15th in the section and 38th in the state.

Mission Prep quarterback Tyler Baty set a San Luis Obispo County record for career touchdown passes with 85 and counting. His 2,580 passing yards so far this season rank 14th in the section and 30th in California. His 38 touchdown passes in 2012 are tied for 8th most in the state and tied for 5th most in the Southern Section.

Mission wide receiver Joey Hall has 48 catches for 1,113 yards and 19 TD catches in 2012. He leads the Southern Section and ranks second in the state in touchdown receptions. Hall ranks 11th in the section and 22nd in the state in receiving yards.

Paso Robles High senior running back Colton Madrigal rushed for 1,553 yards this year for the Bearcats. He ranks 30th in the section and 75th in the state.

Atascadero kick returner Izaiah Cooks ranks 7th in the section and 14th in the state by averaging 30.5 yards per kick return. Arroyo Grande High's Elijah Holt ranks 16th in the section and 23rd in California by averaging 27.13 yards per kick return. Holt broke loose for a 95 yard kickoff return for a TD in the Eagles' first round playoff game. Paso Robles sophomore Bailey Gaither ranks 17th in the section and 24th in the state with his 26.87 yards per kickoff return average.

Arroyo Grande senior Ian Malott recorded 10 sacks this fall, which tied for 38th most in the Southern Section. Morro Bay senior linebacker Jake Beavers compiled a Los Padres League leading 114 tackles, which rank 46th most in the section.

Several Central Coast kickers have landed on this list. St. Joseph's Ben Adam converted 9 field goals for the Knights. He ranks 11th in the Southern Section and 15th in the state. Righetti's Ryan Provost made 8 field goals to rank 18th in the section and 24th in the state. Lompoc's Jose Morales made 6 field goals and 61 PATs to give him 79 total points. He ranks 9th in the state in total points and 7th in the section. 46 of his kickoffs also went for touchbacks, which puts him tied for 8th in the state and 6th in the Southern Section.
