Freshman Parker Hindle enjoyed a career day at the plate and helped the Cuesta College baseball team to a much-needed 11-2 win over Oxnard in a Western State Conference game on Thursday.
Hindle went 4 for 5 with 3 doubles and a career-high 5 RBI. Sophomore pitcher Andrew Nelson threw 7 shutout innings and struck out 9 to earn his team-best 6th win of the season.
Atascadero High graduate Spencer Ruggles and Steve Herting also tallied 2 hit games for the Cougars.
The Cougars scored 3 in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Paso Robles High graduate Mac Stuart that allowed San Luis Obispo High grad Marco Murillo to score the first run of the game. Hindle followed with a 2-run double to the wall in left-center. He added another 2-run double to almost the same spot in the third inning and later came into score on a wild pitch. Ryan McGuire drove in another run on a safety squeeze bunt to make it 7-0 Cuesta.
Cuesta added 3 more runs in the sixth on a RBI-triple by Domingues, a run-scoring single from Hindle and a RBI-triple from Ruggles.
The Cougars snapped a 3 game slide and evened their mark at 5-5 in WSC play. They're 11-15 overall. Despite their troubles this season, the defending conference champion Cougars are just half a game out of first place.
