The national signing festivities resumed Wednesday morning at Atascadero High School.
Markita Hinton signed a national letter of intent for women's track and field to Sacramento State. Markita set the school record for shot put at 43 feet, nine inches last year. She also finished second in the Pac-7 League Championships and eighth in the CIF State meet.
She admitted she originally thought she would be playing a different sport in college, until she fell in love with throwing. "I thought basketball at first. That is what my parents and I originally had set up. Then my coach got me in to track and I started it my sophomore year and then I just went along with it," said Hinton. "I'm so excited to go to the next level and to actually compete."
Hinton joins Jamie Council, Bryce Cherry and Alex Aguiar as fellow Greyhounds in the Class of 2010 to earn a chance to play at the next level.
