Hit and run victim dies; suspect facing murder charge

A former aide to Representative Lois Capps, who was arrested in connection with a hit and run last Friday, is facing new charges.

The victim in that crash, Mallory Dies, 27, has died.

The Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office announced late Wednesday afternoon that Raymond Morua will now be charged with murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.

Santa Barbara police said Morua struck Dies as she was crossing a street in downtown Santa Barbara. Police said Morua had attended a party that night and admitted to them he had some gin and tonics.

Morua was a constituent liaison for Capps until this past weekend.
