SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Cal Poly Mustangs have a lot of local talent making a difference on the field this year.
Atascadero's Weston Walker snaps for field goals and Mustangs starting right tackle as a red shirt sophomore.
"Coming in I was really just looking to get playing time," Walker said, "now that I'm starting my goal is to become a great player."
Also on special teams, Nipomo High School graduate Kevin Britt is getting time on the field after missing last season with a back injury, and the first part of this season with a leg injury.
I think Kevin's doing better," Walsh said, "we're toying with the idea of moving him to safety. We think that that might be a better spot for him long term."
On the offensive side of the ball, redshirt freshman Elias Stokes is back from hip surgery, a surgery he needed because of an injury he suffered as a high school junior for Paso Robles.
"He's still a ways away as far as truly understanding because he has had limited live repititions," Walsh said, "which is tough on a young player, but we still have high expectations for him."
Each of these Mustangs will look to represent their central coast hometowns this Saturday versus Northern Arizona. Kickoff is at Alex G. Spanos Stadium at 6:05 p.m.
