Homeless encampment causes riverbed fire

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department was called to a vegetation fire at Highway 246 and Sweeny Road in Lompoc.

It happened just after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The fire burned about 1/4 acre near the Santa Ynez riverbed.

The fire department says it was caused by a homeless encampment in the area.

Three engines responded to the fire, but had a hard time accessing it.
