Folks at Atascadero High celebrated the accomplishments on Tuesday of two student-athletes, who will play at the next level.
Girls Basketball player Emilie Boege officially committed to Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Toros compete at the Division II level. They've won three California Collegiate Athletic Association titles and made five appearances in the NCAA Tournament. "It's great. All this hard work over the years, all the traveling ball and everything it's a great accomplishment. I'm really excited," said Boege, who expects to play shooting guard as a freshman for CSUDH.
Boege averaged 11.5 points and 8.1 rebounds last season for the Greyhounds, who finished second in the PAC 7 League and advanced into the quarterfinals of the CIF playoffs. Emilie made 63 of her 177 three-point shots for a 35 percent clip.
Lauryn Cooper signed to play softball at Vanguard University. Cooper had only three at-bats this season for the PAC 7 champion Greyhounds because of an injury.
Vanguard completes in the Golden State Athletic Conference at the NAIA level. The Lions finished 33-24 this season and featured Paso Robles High graduate Stacie Salazar, who finished second on the team with 11 wins in the circle. They've made four national tournament appearances with the most recent coming in 2007.
"It honestly feels so good just to know that all the hard work, even in just the past year, is really paying off. I'm just so excited to take my game to the next level and see what happens," added Cooper.
Earlier this school year, fellow Atascadero softball player Jessie Hufstetler signed a national letter of intent to San Jose State. Athletic department officials say they expect more signing ceremonies to take place in the coming weeks.
