The Greyhounds relied on their passing game in their season opener and that was a good thing. Playing a rare Thursday night game, Atascadero High beat Salinas High 35-7 in Salinas.
Senior quarterback Jesse Whitten had a huge night for the Hounds, throwing for more than 200 yards in the air including touchdown strikes to Troy Norris and Weston Walker. Tanner Thompson added a rushing score to give the Hounds a 21-0 lead in the second quarter.
Atascadero was the first Central Coast team to kick off the 2010 season. Nearly a dozen more will be in action on Friday or Saturday. Be sure to tune in to our season premiere of Friday Night Highlights on Friday around 11:10 pm.
