Officials say a fire broke out at a home in Santa Maria Sunday afternoon, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Around 2 p.m., the Santa Maria Fire Department responded to the 400 block of Chaparral where they say smoke was coming from an upstairs window.

Officials say the fire was confined to a bedroom, but the second floor does have heavy smoke damage.

Crews cut a ventilation hole in the roof to help remove the heat and smoke.

No one was injured and everyone was out of the home before the fire department arrived.

Damage is estimated at $140,000.
