Houston doctor develops non-invasive laser treatment for chronic pain

Chronic pain has fueled the billion dollar prescription drug industry.

More than half of Americans live with chronic pain, and it's one of the most common reasons for missing work.

Now, a Houston doctor is using a non-invasive high tech treatment called Low Level Laser Therapy of LLLT.

He says the treatment reduces inflammation and muscle spasms while accelerating recovery time.

"This is a whole new area where we're starting to use laser for treatment for musculoskeletal pain, neck pain, back pain, extremity pain," said Dr. Howard Cotler of the Laser Health Spa.

Patients may need up to 14 treatments depending on the severity of the condition.

The cost usually ranges between 50 and 100 dollars per treatment.
