HS Boys Basketball: Righetti, Cabrillo stay undefeated in league play

The first half of league play came to a close on Friday in both the Los Padres and Pac 7 Leagues. Cabrillo stayed undefeated in LPAL action, while Righetti remained perfect in Pac 7 play. Santa Maria and St.Joseph both won as well to stay one game about of first place.

PAC 7 League Recap:
The Righetti High boys basketball team completed the first half of league play with a 64-45 win over visiting San Luis Obispo on Friday. The Warriors improved to 6-0 in Pac 7 games, while the Tigers dropped to 1-5.

Sophomore Cameron Walker led the Warriors with 22 points and senior sharp shooter Landon Brown added 8 points for Righetti.

David Thoreson led the Tigers with 15 points and Marley Stalling added 7 for SLO.

Case Bruton led all scorers with 24 points as the St. Joseph Knights won at Paso Robles 75-42. The Knights improved to 15-4 overall and 5-1 in league, one game back of first place Righetti. Curry Parham added 18 points for St. Joseph. Jaylon Davis led the Bearcats with 18 points. Paso Robles fell to 5-14 on the season and 1-5 in league.

The Greyhounds outscored the Panthers 28-10 in the third quarter to pull away in their 76-54 road victory at Pioneer Valley. Robbie Berwick led all scorers with 18 points and 5 assists. The junior scored 8 points in the third quarter. Joe Johnson added 13 points as eleven different Hounds scored in the game. Andrew Madrigal led the Panthers with 15 and Drew Johnson chipped in 13. Atascadero is now 4-2 in league 11-8 overall. PV fell to 1-5 in Pac 7 action and 3-14 for the year.

Los Padres League Recap
The Cabrillo boys finished the first half of Los Padres League play a perfect 6-0 after a 53-14 home win over Nipomo. The Titans led 13-2 after the first quarter, 27-9 at the half and 42-11 after three. Michael Woodard led the Conquistadores with 11 points, while Chad Brodhead added 7 points and 5 blocks. Kaileb Mendez led the Titans with 5 points. Cabrillo is 12-8 on the year, while Nipomo dropped its 16th-straight game and fell to 0-6 in LPL action.

Santa Maria took care of business at home and beat the Lompoc Braves 77-64. The Saints improved to 5-1 in league to stay one game back of Cabrillo. They are 14-6 on the season. Lompoc dropped to 4-2 in LPL action and 6-8 overall.

The Templeton boys trailed 38-30 with about two minutes to go, but came all the way back to edge Santa Ynez 41-40 on the road. The Eagles evened their league mark to 3-3 and 9-9 overall. The Pirates fell to 1-5 in league and 5-11 on the year. Andy Garretson led the Eagles with 15 points and 8 rebounds.
