The girls basketball teams that are leading the races in the Pac 7 and Los Padres Leagues easily won their games on Friday. The Morro Bay and St. Joseph High girls teams routed their opponents to stay undefeated in league action. Templeton and Pioneer Valley remain one loss back in the standings.
Pioneer Valley 68 - Righetti 39
Behind a double-double from Shynia Tell, the Lady Panthers rebounded from a tough loss to St. Joseph with a dominant 68-39 win at Righetti on Friday night. The Pioneer Valley girls improved to 13-4 overall and 4-1 in Pac 7 action.
Tell led the Panthers with 20 points and 16 rebounds.
St. Joseph 63 - Atascadero 30
The St. Joseph Knights stayed undefeated in Pac 7 play with a 33 point win at Atascadero. The Knights are now 4-0 in league and 10-7 overall. The Greyhounds dropped to 2-1 in league and 10-5 on the year.
Templeton 51 - Cabrillo 37
Marissa Torres poured in 16 points to lead three Eagles in double figures as Templeton won at home against Cabrillo 51-37. The Eagles bounced back from Wednesday's big loss to Morro Bay and improved to 3-1 in Los Padres League play and 13-3 overall. Cabrillo fell to 3-2 in league and 7-9 overall.
Megan Hattar added 12 points for Templeton, while Mari Stewart recorded a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds.
Morro Bay 51 - Santa Maria 12
Hannah Gilbert nearly doubled the entire Santa Maria team by herself in Morro Bay's 51-12 thrashing of the Saints. The Pirates improved to 5-0 in Los Padres League play and 11-3 for the season. Morro Bay, the two-time defending LPL champions, won their 20th-straight LPL game. Nikki Machado added 9 points for Morro Bay.
Santa Maria fell to 0-4 in league and 4-12 overall.
