Hundreds of high school students compete at rodeo in Paso Robles

Some of the top athletes in the country are competing in the California High School Rodeo District 7's Mid-State Classic Rodeo this weekend. It's the largest high school rodeo in the state, with more than 250 students competing. The event kicked off Friday night at the Paso Robles fairgrounds. Throughout the weekend, students are competing in events like barrel racing, bull riding, and roping. "It's a lot different than you know just packing your cleats to go to soccer." Arroyo Grande High School sophomore, Camille Canby said. "Your horse has to be healthy, you have to be healthy, it's not just dependent on you." The event continues through Sunday afternoon. There is a raffle for tickets to the National Finals Rodeo along with a $250 gift card for travel money. There's also a silent auction open until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
