Hundreds of young runners compete in Orcutt Track Classic

Young runners came together Sunday for a track meet in Orcutt.

Patterson Road Elementary held its Orcutt Track Classic at Pioneer Valley High School.

The meet was open to all boys and girls in Santa Barbara County in 3rd through 8th grade.

"We decided that we go to so many track meets in the South Coast. We go to Lompoc. We go to Santa Barbara. We wanted to have our own track meet here in Orcutt," said Nicole Wilberg, Track Coordinator.

Runners at the event told us why they love track.

"I like how it feels to run and have the crowd cheering on," said Katrina MacKinnon, a 4th grader.

"It feels good to run a whole lap and then if you win, it feels good, and it's just good competition," said Noah Martinez, a 5th grader.

215 runners competed in the track meet.
