I-Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival this weekend in SLO

One of the most beautiful festivals of the year on the Central Coast is happening this weekend in San Luis Obispo. The I Madonnari Festival happens Saturday and Sunday near Mission plaza at Broad and Monterey streets. It's an Italian Street-Painting Festival where artists draw amazing works with chalk on the sidewalks. It runs from 10-6 both days, so if you aren't booked up this weekend, check it out. It's free for you to check out and it's worth the trip.

Money is raised by sponsorships of the "concrete canvases". Sponsorships are sold for the squares artists fill and proceeds go to the Children's Creative Project and the American Institute of Architects Central Coast Chapter, both non-profit organizations. They range in price from $75 to $500, depending on the size. Kids get a square just for the purchase of a chalk box.

The Children's Creative Project enhances the arts education programs in the San Luis Obispo County schools. The AIA Central Coast Chapter provides funding for an AIACCC scholarship foundation for S.L.O. County students. For festival information click here, or
