An Illinois man is awaiting extradition to San Luis Obispo County for allegedly engaging in sex acts with a local teen.
The Superior Court issued an arrest warrant on March 11 after an Arroyo Grande Police Department investigation into Lionel Meza, 43, revealed he had engaged in sexual activity with a 16-year-old Arroyo Grande female. Detectives with the Round Lake Beach Police Department in Illinois arrested Meza on March 15.
The warrant charges Meza with five counts of oral copulation with a person under 18 and one count of sexual penetration of a person under 18. His bail is set at one million dollars.
The alleged crimes came to light after Meza began an Internet relationship with the teen back in 2007. Meza allegedly traveled from Tuscon, Arizona to San Luis Obispo County on several occasions to meet her.
He is expected to be extradited to San Luis Obispo County by April 3.
