Imhof hurls first complete game, Mustangs tally 14 hits in 7-1 win over UC Davis

Freshmen Jordan Ellis and Brian Mundell, as well as senior Denver Chavez had three hits apiece to back sophomore Matt Imhof in the Mustangs 7-1 win over UC Davis on Friday night in Baggett Stadium. The Mustangs are 2-0 in Big West play and 19-6 overall. They can complete a three-game Big West opening series sweep on Saturday at 1 pm.

Cal Poly made it a 3-0 game in the fifth inning when Ellis hit a sacrifice fly to deep center to allow Peter Van Gansen to tag up and score all the way from second base.

The Aggies scored their lone run of the game in the sixth on a sacrifice fly, but the Mustangs answered with two runs in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead. David Armendariz singled to left center to score Mundell, and Tommy Pluschkell followed with a double down the left field line to plate Armendariz.

After Imhof retired the Aggies in the seventh, Mundell clubbed a two-run triple to deep right center to score Ellis and Allen and cap the scoring for the game.
