SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Cal Poly baseball team appears to have dodged a major bullet at the top of their pitching rotation. The injured back of junior left hander Matt Imhof is not expected to keep the Mustang ace off the mound on Friday night at Hawai'i.
Imhof is with the fourth ranked Mustangs in Hawai'i and will make his scheduled start against the Rainbow Warriors, team officials told KSBY Sports.
The star junior tweaked his lower back early in his start last week against UC Santa Barbara after getting his cleat stuck on the mound during a delivery. Imhof remained in the game, but was roughed up for a season-high seven runs by the Gauchos. The left hander had allowed just seven runs total all season long entering that start.
Imhof and the Mustangs open their three game series at Hawai'i on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 9:35 PM Pacific Time. The game (and Saturday's game) will be streamed by OCSports (link).
